*I started off with www.similiarsites.com  (shows you close/other great sites – helps you uncover additional targets or to sites which may lead you to discovering where more of that particular talent could be on.  Personally I think its better than related:google as  bottom section also contains websites that have similar keyword density)

*Plugged in www.conferencehound.com (which shows you conferences from all over the world)

*Check out www.leadferret.com [over 10M contacts] in addition to www.jigsaw.com [Over 30M contacts] to help you uncover Names, Titles, Companies, Phones & Emails.

*Another great tool I use to help me reach out is www.argali.com (Free download, ad supported, limited to 10 searches a month) – to find those hidden offices of companies not listed listed on their Contact Us/Offices page of companies.  I’ve found those small engineering offices to those presales/field sales solo folks.

*Try out/Use www.zoominfo.com and leverage the Free community edition within zoominfo to tap leads.  Additionally zoominfo is a great tool to help you find info about a company to also finding similar companies.

*I have a phone cheat sheet available in which I show you how to get into the Dial-by-name system of any phone system; Email me at harrisd@yahoo-inc.com and put “Phone Sourcing Cheat Sheet Please” in the subject line.

*How about some free resume boards:

A New Year – 2009

I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday time off.  We can all look forward to making 2009 great for us.  Amid all the negative news, layoffs, economic uncertainty, now is is a good time (as any) to challenge ourselves learning and growing.  I’ve been meaning to share a couple books I’ve recently read and would highly recommend.

Finding Heroes is a great book by Larry Dillon.  I had the privilege of working alongside during a portion of his time while at NetApp.  This book uncovers what questions to ask, but also help you differentiate and find the best candidates.   If you learn what questions to ask, training your eyes (via screening resumes correctly), and ears (listening/understanding their answers) to uncovering the best – You will find companies wanting your talent.  It should be used anytime as a desk-side reference for any recruiter to hiring manager.

The other book while not exactly recruiting related can help you in virtually all areas of your life.  The book is 177 Mental Toughness Secrets of the World Class by Steve Siebold.   He outlines what actions, habits, performance, and philosophies to have within your thought process that will make you a focused champion in whatever you decide you want in life.

Lastly, I want to plug Shally Steckerl’s jobmachine training.  I was fortunate enough to take one of his 1-on-1 web/phone trainings in 2005.  His methods, processes, and techniques for uncovering talent on the web are absolutely one of the best! He can help you or your team have a solid understanding of internet sourcing and uncovering the talent on the world wide web.  His trainings truly can take you/your team to the next level.

A Live Learning event with Dr John Sullivan

I’m co-secretary of the HRCA and just wanted to let you all know of what we at HRCA think will be another great LIVE learning event this Thursday at McAfee at 7pm. We have Dr John Sullivan (usually he is featured on the front page of ERE) headlining that night.

Hanging out in San Diego at ERE!

Hello Everyone! I’m traveling again! Yesterday I met up with the Great Glenn Gutmacher, Russ Moon, Tim O’Connor, and Shally Steckerl. We have a pre-conference sourcing session we will be presenting to the crowd at this ERE Expo here in beautiful San Diego.

This is my first ERE event and I am pumped up, super excited to hang out, network and meet lots of new HR/recruiting professionals. Hope to see you there!

LinkedIn and Emails

Hello Everyone! I am inundated with so many emails and linkedin requests from being featured on SixDegreesFromDave

Please be patient as I go through my emails.  I truly am appreciative of all the good will comments and support, not to mention attention (wow!) I’ve been receiving!

LinkedIn and Emails seem to be a daily part of most, if not all recruiters/sourcers lives. Reading and responding is also important in our relationships. I just want to acknowledge everyone that has been emailing me. I do have a lot of personal emails I still need to answer and ask for just a little patience as I’m going through my personal email account!

Sourcing out in the Public & Wednesday is a great day for Phone Sourcing

Thanksgiving is tomorrow! While some of us will be shopping for some online bargains, going out and meeting (or racing) other shoppers to the black Friday deals/bargains can be fun. While waiting in lines don’t be afraid to say hello and meet others. Also for some sourcers/recruiters in the retail vertical its a great way to see and meet a number of retail associates/management as they almost have the whole staff working.
